Biography
Elizabeth Braatz currently serves as a Board Member for the Open Education Conference. She recently earned a Master of Public Policy degree with a focus on advocacy and leadership from Portland State University. Elizabeth has actively engaged in various aspects of open education both personally and professionally.

Her involvement in open education began in 2021 when she was encouraged by a criminal justice professor at Western Oregon University to apply for the Regional Leaders of Open Education student leader program. A year later, she was honored to be the keynote speaker at the Regional Leaders of Open Education conference held in Boston, Massachusetts.

Elizabeth has actively advocated for open education at both the state and federal levels. She received a distinguished award from her undergraduate institution (The Maurice Challenge) for her efforts in advancing textbook affordability and expanding open education access on campus. In 2022, she was invited to join the Student Advisory Committee for the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), where she served for a year and continues to contribute in a volunteer capacity.

Elizabeth became a published author when she was 21 years old, and received the John Lewis Youth Leadership Award for the State of Oregon in 2022 at 22 years old for her dedication to service and advocacy.

Elizabeth will be attending and presenting at the Open Education Conference 2024, which will take place from October 8th to 10th in Providence, Rhode Island.
