Open Texas Code of Conduct
Purpose of the event
The Open Texas conference is a gathering place for the Texas higher education community to share and learn about state-of-the-art research, practice, and advocacy in open educational resources, open pedagogy, and open education. The conference provides opportunities for faculty, students, researchers, librarians, administrators, policymakers, advocates, and others to share expertise and network through various types of presentations, panels, workshops, and informal discussions.
Open Texas was created to follow on the success of both the 2018 Statewide OER Summit and the 2019 Statewide Open Education Texas Convening. The Texas Digital Library (TDL) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) staff serve as the standing Steering Committee for the annual Open Texas conference, the first of which was held virtually March 11-12, 2021.

Open Texas Commitment
The Open Texas steering and planning committees are committed to the presence and contributions of all persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political belief, sex, age, or disability.

We know that the best problem-solving and critical thinking happens when people with a wide array of experiences and perspectives come together to work in comfort and safety as peers.

Expectations of attendees
We therefore expect participants at Open Texas to help create thoughtful and respectful environments where that interaction can take place.
We expect that participants will:
-
Participate in an authentic, constructive, and active way.
-
Exercise consideration and respect in speech and action.
-
Attempt collaboration before conflict.
-
Embrace respectful communication through words of encouragement and collaboration.
-
Engage in active listening.
-
Be mindful of your environment and of your fellow participants.

Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning speech or actions by any conference participants, at all related events and in one-on-one communications carried out in the context of conference business.

Engagement in unacceptable behavior is grounds for removal from the conference. Participants understand that they have no right to participation in the event and that the conference is not a public forum.
